ReplyDeleteDear Editor,
The issue about the seating plan has come to my attention. Yes the population in Canada West is much larger than Canada East, but what would happen if they did receive more seats? What would happen to us. It concerns me because if they were to add more seats in the assembly we would be out numbered in a debate or vote against one another, and that would be unfair. they want to have a representation by population , but once again our population would be a lot smaller and would loose o them by a large number. Also what about when Canada East was originally larger than Canada West , and we did not receive any more seats because they wanted it to be equal. So how is Canada west any different than us? This request is an outrage! The majority of us would like to keep it this way, but since there are equal seats we will be in a Political Deadlock! how will the vote ever end? Is just like a even game of tug-a-war. We need someone to break this vote and fast we wouldn't want our country to go at war! Thank-you for your time ,
Sincerely,
Samantha Ferguson.
Dear Editor,
ReplyDeleteI am from Canada East. I wholeheartedly disagree with George Browns idea of “representation by population”. I don't think it is fair for them to outnumber us in the assembly, since we often vote against eachother in every vote we would lose! Yes, they are larger than us by nearly 300,000 people but that shouldn't mean that Canada West should get more seats in the assembly. Also, when the province was united in the year 1841 we, Canada East had the larger population. We never recieved more seats in the assembly so I ask you, editor, Why should they?
I don't want the political deadlock to continue. The government is not getting anything done . Right now nobody has enough votes to do anything and we are getting nowhere. I do want this to come to an end but I don't think that giving Canada West more seats in the assembly is the right, just, and fair solution.

My name is Kordell Meadas I am a citizen of Canada east, I’m also very involved in politics. George brown is wrong to even think that everyone in Canada east would just subject to his so called rep by pop. It would mean that all of us here would be under his laws in pretty much his way of life because he has the majority of seats in parliament. And that cruel and I know for a fact John A MacDonald would never force his beliefs on the people of Canada west. So why does George brown think he can force his beliefs on us. I think George brown is a coward because he constantly wants to control both provinces so that there isn’t a rebellion. And I say if he doesn’t stop pushing this rep by pop on us we will rebel and I can guarantee that. This representation by population is not fair because Canada west has bigger population and in 1841 when the provinces was first united Canada east outnumber Canada west and we requested representation by population, and we didn’t get it so why they. I think that some good ideas and I hope you agree.
Sincerely: Kordell Meadas

ReplyDeleteI have a few reasons that I think it is unfair for Canada West to have more seats in the assembly just because they have more people. A representation by population is a very bad idea. I hope you read this with an open mind, and put these ideas into consideration.
My first reason is because if Canada West gets more seats, then Canada East will be outnumbered, and that would be highly unfair for Canada East. What if Canada West had the smaller population out of the two, and you were fighting for the fairness of the assembly, I imagine you would be fairly mad at Canada East, and the person who made the very unfair rule. I believe that if anything, nobody should receive more seats, and they should each keep the same amount of seats, to make it fair for everyone. The second reason is because, when the province was first united, Canada East had a larger population, and they did not receive more seats in the assembly. If Canada West receives more seats, which I hope they don’t, than the next time Canada East has a larger population than Canada West, they’d better get more seats for the assembly. But, I am still totally agreeing with Canada East in saying that if anything, no one receives more seats in the assembly, and you just leave the number of seats as even.
Although I am totally against getting more seats for Canada West, I still think that I can speak for Canada West’s side. If I was on Canada West’s side, then I would be saying exactly what all of you are saying. Which is that, Canada West should get more seats because of the larger population or a representation by population. If they do choose to give Canada West more seats in the assembly, then I will not get mad because I hope that if Canada East is fighting for more seats, then some people will be nice and agree to give Canada East more seats, but if not then that is ok too. So either way, I hope everyone stays happy. I believe all three of these reasons are very good, whether I am hoping for the two stay the same, or Canada West to get more seats. The first two points hopefully state enough to change the mind of George Brown, or at least help him change his mind. But once again, either is alright whether Canada West gets more seats, or they stay even.
Sincerely, Ami Ann Mernagh
